Stop the Gun Grab

Petition to the House of Commons

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House to the following:

  1. That the Government of Canada has implemented a gun confiscation program to seize more than 2,000 makes and models of lawfully held firearms from individuals and businesses by October 2026;
  2. That this program is expected to cost taxpayers as much as $6 billion, the vast majority of which will be wasted on bureaucracy;
  3. That this action targets law-abiding firearms owners, sports shooters and hunters, instead of gun smugglers trafficking illegal firearms across Canada’s border with the United States and the violent criminals who use these illegal firearms in the commission of violent crime;
  4. That seven provinces, two territories, and dozens of the largest provincial and municipal police services in Canada oppose this program and view it as a diversion of scarce resources away from targeting actual criminals.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, call upon the Minister of Public Safety to: cancel the gun confiscation program, as it is not in the national interest, wastes public funds, targets law-abiding Canadians instead of actual criminals, fails to improve public safety, and instead respect the rights of law-abiding firearms owners while redirecting the associated funding towards stopping illegal gun smuggling and violent offenders.
