About the Award
What Is the MP Distinguished Service Award?
The award is a new initiative by the Member of Parliament for North Island–Powell River to recognize constituents who have made a significant contribution to their community and country through exceptional service, leadership, volunteerism, bravery or dedication to helping others.
It celebrates individuals whose efforts have made a meaningful and lasting difference in the lives of those who call our region home.
How Many Awards Are Given Out?
A maximum of five awards are presented each year.
How Are Awards Chosen?
Recipients are selected for a demonstrated record of exemplary community service and for the significance and impact of their contributions. Anyone may submit a nomination online or through a constituency office.

Nominees must live in North Island–Powell River. Nominations are accepted year-round and reviewed as awards are presented. Because only a small number of awards are given each year, not every deserving nomination can be selected.

The First Recipient
Honouring Service
On behalf of the people of North Island–Powell River, it was my honour to present Ms. Carol Chapman with the very first MP Distinguished Service Award.
For more than four decades, Carol’s dedicated service and volunteerism have helped shape Campbell River. That work includes Fashion Inferno in support of the BC Burn Fund, the Campbell River Hospice Society, and her inspiring care for animals through the SPCA.
Of course, Carol is perhaps best known for her visionary transformation of Campbell River’s Canada Day celebration from a near non-event to the phenomenal success it is today — complete with an iconic parade, live music, and one of the largest fireworks displays in the entire country!

Carol, you represent the very best of our nation. You are a pillar of strength for your city and the personification of community spirit. The people of Canada are grateful for your service.
Thank you once more for your selfless dedication and hard work. We are truly blessed to have you in our community.

Each MP Distinguished Service Award includes a personalized letter, a certificate of appreciation and a special commemorative coin that tells the story of our riding.
